The best way to “detox” your body is to drink lots and lots of water. It totally cleans out your system. Fasts in general do not work. You just need to eat a balanced diet. If your body is used to lots of calories, then strictly fruits and veggies will not cut it. Take baby steps. Here are some tips for healthy eating.
Eat lots of fiber and lean protein to keep you full.
Try to drink 8 glasses of water a day. I have a Nalgene water bottle that I fill up twice.
Some fruits and veggies are better for you than others. Brighter veggies are best and the darker the lettuce the better. Also, fruit has a lot of natural sugar so take it easy.
I find that in order for me to eat healthily I have to have a program. I make a list of foods I am “allowed” to eat. Get rid of all the food that you should not be eating and you will not be tempted. Make your meals the night before and put healthy snacks into small containers that you can grab them on the go. This way, if you are crunched for time, you will not be tempted to grab junk food.
Don’t believe all food packages that say “healthy choice” on them. Use your own discretion. Look at the calories, fat, sodium, and sugar. Some things that are generally thought of as being healthy (like granola) can be very high in fat and calories.
Go online and look at healthy recipes. There are so many out there that you can not possibly get bored and revert back to your old habits. Just make sure that they list the nutrition facts.
Sorry this message was so long, but I hope it helped… Good luck!
Personally,I would never “detox” because that would be unhealthy because I would be missing my meat servings & protein…If you want to start on the good road to healthy eating…All you need to do is change little things a day or two at a time. Some good changes to make would be to add 10 minutes to your daily exercise,Choose healthier foods,Instead of eating white bread try wheat or brown bread,Try to drink 1% or 2% milk,Don’t drink whole milk…Imagine adding 24 extra grams of fat to your diet just by drinking 3 cups of milk when you can drink 3 and only add 7.5,Instead of eating canned veggies and fruits eat them fresh,They have alot less sodium and sugar that way & don’t buy cereals with dried fruits unless they have lots of fiber and not alot of sugar…Like raisin bran,Because refined sugar isn’t great for you! And if you have to eat out try something grilled or get a small parfait,Salads & fried meat from fast food places are usually loaded with fat, sugar and salt. I’m sorry,For someone not used to eating healthy these are alot of tips,But just imagine how good you will feel and look when you start changing your diet! Hope I helped and have a happy new year!! By the way,Remember vegetarians also include tofu in their diet…Don’t listen to that other guy!
For only a week it’s fine. Make sure you drink plenty of water.
I am not doctor, but detoxing is fine, but you also need to incorporate protein and complex carbohydrates to keep the weight off.

Do some real research, or find some help from someone who has done it, before you start fasting.

Sure vegetarians do it all the time…no less than 1300 calories a day though along with 30 to 40 minutes of exercise everyday
